In December 2004, Kiplinger's Letter cited that Punta Gorda is among the fastest job growth areas in Florida from now to 2030 with jobs that are likely to grow nearly 3% per year on average. In 2003, MSA recognized Punta Gorda as an excellent place to live, work and play ranking in the top 10 at number 4 out of 331 metropolitan areas rated.

Punta Gorda is located on the banks of the Peace River and the Gulf of Mexico and is best described as the "heart-beat" of Charlotte County. Punta Gorda has a unique downtown historical district with charming older and renovated homes, magnificent restaurants, galleries, and shops. Several of the historic sites are currently on the National Register. The City also has a picturesque waterfront area with a harbor and many waterfront publicly accessible parks.
You will find many active sailing, boating, arts, cultural and community associations in the Punta Gorda area. 
Punta Gorda Isles and Burnt Store Isles are both waterfront and golfing communities encompassing a large number of deep water canals with direct access to Charlotte Harbor. 

The Fisherman's Village (located between Punta Gorda Isles and the historic district) offers a number of appealing shops and restaurants.
